Curriculum

This is a course for fishermen, netmakers and interested individuals. It is preferable that candidates have a basic knowledge of mathematics and are familiar with the use of computers.

Each teaching session (hour) is counted as 60 minutes. The main objective of the course is that by the end, the student should have obtained an understanding of the following:

  • The principal fishing methods and types of fishing gear,
  • The suitability and efficiency of each fishing method,
  • The main forces at work on fishing gears and the demands made on them,
  • The development of fishing gears and method in recent years,
  • The behaviour of different commercially exploited species and the suitability of different gears in fishing for them,
  • An awareness of the damage that fishing gears can cause on the marine environment and fish stocks.
