DSC 101 Danish seines (fly dragging/anchor seining)

Objectives:

Students are made familiar with the construction and efficiency of Danish seines, with reference to the environmental aspects of this type of fishing.

Contents:

The course includes the use of underwater video footage and flume tank models, and even the possibility of using a swimming pool to emulate the use of a Danish seine. Discussion on the effectiveness of Danish seine fishing under various circumstances, the deck equipment needed to use this kind of gear and comparisons between seine and trawl fishing.

Material supplied by the instructor on paper and in electronic format.

Teaching staff reserve the right to adjust the length of session in particular modules or to leave out sections, according to the requirements of individual groups of students.
